Walks Over Four Miles - Our Re-organisation

The retirement of John Halford (see below) has left a big hole to be filled - he did a tremendous amount of work in running this group and a new way of working had to be found. We are very fortunate that Judy Smith has agreed to take over as a Leader/Co-ordinator, and we are also fortunate that we now have a large number of members who are prepared to lead walks.

Our link at the top of this page takes us to our walking calendar for the next 6 months and our appeal now is for those prepared to lead walks to volunteer for one of those dates. All we need at the moment is your name and phone number, The details of your walk can follow on nearer the time. As the calendar fills up you can see which dates are taken and which are still available. Obviously what we particularly need at the moment are volunteers for the January and February dates. If we can have these by December we can hand out the next walking program at the Christmas Lunch walk.

In future walkers will contact the walk leader directly by phone prior to the walk, and that leader will also collect the subs. Remember, folks, it down to all of us now. No Leaders - No Walks.
So please check out your diaries and ring Judy with your offers.

Thank you all in anticipation.

Farewell Message From Our Retiring Leader - John Halford

Well fellow walkers old and new, it is with regret that this will be my last report that I will be writing on behalf of the above group. In December I shall be calling it a day, it will be just over 4 years since I took over from my predecessor Clive Bostle. I would like to thank all the members of the group who have made my job a lot easier by leading walks since I took over the role of coordinator. Over the last 3 or 4 months we have walked in the areas of Dumbleton, Stanton, Blockley, part of the newly opened Worcester canal near Claines, Snowshill, Winchcombe, Upton- Upon- Severn, Grafton and Ashton- Under-Hill also a visit to the local nature reserve at Beckford. In the coming months we will be visiting Winchcombe, Alderton, The Lenches/ Abbots /Morton, Temple Guiting and Kemerton led by colleagues from neighbouring Tewkesbury U3A. In December we will be having our Annual Christmas lunch which will be held once again at the Round- Of-Gras at Badsey on Dec 20Th. I would like wish whoever takes over this very friendly and enthusiastic group the very best of luck & good walking in the years ahead.

Will all over 4 mile walkers please note: After the walk at Kemerton on 18TH of October a celebratory 10 years anniversary U3A party will take place at the village hall at Wickhamford. All members wishing to attend please contact me on 01386 834648, there will be a small charge of £2 pp to help towards costs. Anyone willing to lend a hand would be very useful.

Signing off John Halford.
