History: Who, Where, When and Why

This winter, starting in November, we will continue the saga of the civil strife in mid-17th-century Britain known variously as the Civil War or the War of the Three Kingdoms. Our period this time will be from the trial and execution of Charles I in 1649 to the Restoration of Charles II in 1660.

The content will include:

• The trial and execution of Charles I
• The Commonwealth
• Cromwell’s campaigns in Ireland and Scotland
• The Scottish invasion of England – the Battle of Worcester
• The Anglo-Dutch War of 1652
• Cromwell as Lord Protector
• The death of Cromwell and the emergence of Fleetwood and Lambert
• The Restoration

All fascinating stuff – so if you like history and a good story, please come along.

We will be meeting on the second and fourth Tuesday afternoon of the month, starting on November 13th and finishing shortly before Easter next year, at Evesham Red Cross Centre.
