A WORD FROM THE CHAIRMAN

As we approach the tenth anniversary of our U3A (this November), I am pleased to advise that a programme of events is now largely finalised. A previously announced Cheese & Wine lunch-time celebration party will take place on our usual monthly meeting date in December (7th) at the Town Hall, when our Town Mayor and Town Clerk will be in attendance, and to which all members are of course cordially invited. A members’ annual luncheon has again been arranged, for 18 January 2012, with a 10th Anniversary theme. This will be held at the Vale Golf Club, and bookings for this popular event are now being taken.
I am pleased to announce that we have a new Newsletter Editor, David Cooper, who has also kindly agreed to be co-opted to the Committee. Our thanks go to George Oxley for his recent work on our newsletters.
We held a meeting for all Group Leaders in September, and this is to be followed by a get-together for new members on Wednesday 12 October, in the Methodist Church, Bridge Street – starting at 2pm.
Our annual Open Day will again be held at the Town Hall on 2 November starting at 12.30pm, when representatives of each interest group will be present. So please do come along, with anyone you know who is also interested in joining one or more of our 60 or so active groups. And please remember that anyone thinking of becoming a U3A member can attend one meeting of any interest group, as a taster session before subscribing as a member.
I look forward to seeing members at the various forthcoming events in our 10th Anniversary Year.

Ian Simpson.
