CLASSIC CINEMA

Our group is now well into its third year selecting, introducing, discussing and – most important of all – watching movies from the golden era of the cinema, from the glory days of Hollywood to the flowering of the British and continental film industry – roughly speaking from the late 1920s to about 1960.

Some of the films are truly great, some frankly have an overblown reputation – all of them are fascinating. This autumn our range includes such contrasts as the post-war Polish intensity of Ashes and Diamonds, the gritty, witty American private-eye shenanigans of The Maltese Falcon and Britain’s most faithful – and perhaps best – adaptation of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, with Alastair Sim in the title role of Scrooge.

We meet on the first and third Fridays of the month at Evesham Methodist Church, Bridge Street, at 10.00 a.m.; it won’t cost you more than £2.00 per session (and it’s often less); and we always break for tea or coffee. New members are welcome –
