EVESHAM U3A BIRDWATCHING GROUP
July 2010 NEWSLETTER
25th July 2010
Visit to Newport Wetlands on 23rd July 2010.
9 Members, including two new members, met at the Twyford Garden Centre and convoyed in three cars the 72 miles to Newport Wetlands, a RSPB Centre. The weather was somewhat overcast but after a reviving cup of coffee we went out onto the Wetlands and down to the Severn Estuary. We realised immediately that we would have seen more birds if we had been there when the tide was coming in but as it was we saw 33 different species of bird. My personal highlight was to see a flock of 20 plus curlew coming into the shore. We agreed that it was well worth travelling that distance and will come back in the future.
The botanists among our group saw some unusual plant life including Tufted Vetch and Narrow-Leafed Sweet Pea. We also saw some caterpillars of the Cinnabar Moth feeding on some vetch.

There will not be a trip in August but the Group will hold it’s Annual Meeting to discuss the previous years trips and discuss the way forward for the group. In order to help this go down in a pleasurable way we will meet for lunch at 12:30 at the Round o’ Gras in Badsey. Could you all please let me know whether you will be coming or not so that I can book the tables.
Regards
Tony Stephans
